3/12/2015 - Updates

  • The SFBS April dinner meeting will be held on April 2nd at Scott's Seafood in Oakland as Donald L. Ervin with Kennedy/Jenks, and Mike Jaeger and Sala McGuire with The Covello Group, present on the "Silicon Valley Clean Water's 48-Inch Force Main Replacement Project, Unit 1." Please include your name, your agency or company, and your menu selection. If you require dietary or other special accommodations, please email a description of your needs.   • Save the Date – Thursday, May 14, 2015 - 7th Annual Supervisor’s Safety Seminar– Shannon Event Center, Dublin, CA

    Management, Supervisors, and Leads:  If you attend one event all year, this is the event for YOU! Specialized safety seminar for Supervisors and Lead Staff in the Wastewater and Water Industries. Don't miss this opportunity to network and learn about new safety technology and solutions applicable to our industry. CEUs will be given to all participants. Low cost of $35 includes access to all sessions and a BBQ lunch.

    The Safety Committee has also opened the official call for presenters for the 7th Annual Supervisor’s Safety Seminar.  Presentations should be dynamic, technically oriented and relative to Supervisory Safety.  Please see the interest form for presenters.  The deadline for submittal is March 28, 2015. 

    Additionally, there are opportunities for exhibitors to showcase new technology, services, and supplies relative to Safety in the water and wastewater industries.  More information is on the exhibitor form

  • The Operations and Maintenance Committee will be holding a treatment plant tour of the City of Hayward Water Pollution Control Facility. 2/25/2015 - Updates

  • The Collections Systems Committee will be holding a Competent Person Training Seminar on March 11th at the CCCSD Collection System Facility in Walnut Creek. A "Competent Person" is capable of identifying existing or predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.   • The SFBS's Professional Development Committee will be holding a one-day seminar on "Introduction to Process Controls & Security Systems" on May 14, 2015.  A major objective of the training seminar is to explain key terminology and symbols used to describe electrical and controls systems so that attendees can more holistically review and comprehend construction contract documents and as-built record drawings used in everyday work related to industrial facilities, especially treatment plants and pump stations.  The target audience is anyone whose work focus is NOT electrical/controls systems but who are interested in furthering their understanding of Process Controls and Security Systems. The seminar will be held at the San Ramon Golf Club (Wedgewood Banquet Center) in San Ramon.   • The SFBS Annual Evening with Industry and Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Hs Lordships Restaurant in Berkeley. There will be a career fair followed by dinner and a panel discussion on “Wastewater for the Future”. The cost for a table at the career fair is $150. To reserve your spot please contact Daisy Thach at cweasfbs@gmail.com by 4:00pm on Wednesday, February 4th.  Please include your name, menu selection, and your agency or company.   • **Canceled** The SFBS's Professional Development Committee will be holding a one-day seminar on Air Quality Issues Affecting the Wastewater Industry.  Innovative odor control and other relevant air quality topics are planned, including basic principles to increase odor control system efficiency, biological vapor-phase odor control technologies, odor sampling, engines/air permitting, and climate change in California.  Operators, maintenance staff, supervisors, engineers, students and others are encouraged to attend.  The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, at the East Bay Municipal Utility District (375 11th Street, Oakland).  For more information, contact Kevin Jim (kjim@sfwater.org or 415-551-4857) or Nohemy Revilla (nrevilla@sfwater.org or 415-920-4768).  Space is limited, and registration is required by 4 PM on February 4, 2015.  To reserve your spot, send registration info to Linda Leong at LLeong@sfwater.org.
