10/14/2014 - Updates

  • The SFBS November dinner meeting will be held on November 6, 2014 at Englander Sports Club in San Leandro. Tom Edwards, Pacific Regional Manager of Duke's Root Control, Inc. will be presenting on "Effects of Current Drought Conditions on Collection Systems Using CIWQS Data."   • Nominations for the 2015 2nd Year Director and Treasurer SFBS Board positions will be accepted at the November Dinner meeting on November 6th. The Treasurer positions is a 1-year commitment and the primary responsibility is to manage the SFBS finances. The 2nd Year Director is a 5-year commitment through all the board positions (except Treasurer) including SFBS President in 2018.   • **Reminder** Award season is here. Nominations for local San Francisco Bay Section awards are now being accepted. There are over 20 categories for CWEA awards, which honor individual CWEA members, agencies, and others in California for their contributions to the success of the wastewater industry. Such recognition provides deserved feedback for the good work done and stimulates public interest in our field which protects the public health and the environment. 10/10/2014 - Updates

  • The SFBS's Professional Development Committee will be holding a one-day seminar on Emerging Technologies in the Wastewater Field.  A wide range of innovative topics are planned including advances in wastewater disinfection, anammox de-ammonification, energy and chemical optimization, producing biodegradable plastics from biogas, and 3D scanning of existing facilities.  Operators, maintenance staff, supervisors, engineers, students and others are invited to attend.  The seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Hs Lordships Restaurant in Berkeley (off of University Ave, towards the bay).  For more information, contact Suzanne Huang ( or 415-243-2150) or Chathu Abeyrathna ( or 925-335-77694).  Registration is required by 4 PM on October 29, 2014.  To reserve your spot, send registration info to Linda Leong at Please see the Emerging Technologies flier for more information. 

  • The SFBS Collections Committee is presenting a training seminar on the Collection Worker's Job Safety on Wednesday, November 5th at the Marina Community Center in San Leandro. As time goes on, the Wastewater Industry continues to change. Because of this we need to be proactive in our efforts to stay current and informed on our jobs as well as in our personal lives. Come join us as we present industry experts and explore information and updates from confined spaces to cyber.     Join CWEA in Crafting Water through 21st Century Learning by submitting a proposal to present at Annual Conference 2015. We'll be selecting speakers to present meaningful interactive sessions where participants can engage, connect and learn.

  • The SF Bay Section of CWEA will be a Gold Level Sponsor of WEF’s President’s Reception at WEFTEC this year in honor of the presidential inauguration of our esteemed colleague, Ed McCormack, who has been a dedicated and supportive member of CWEA/SFBS for over 30 years. Ed will become the second CWEA member to head WEF in the last two decades. As sponsors, our section has been awarded a limited number of free tickets to this event and the SFBS logo will be on the gold sponsorship banner. We currently have three (3) tickets available to offer to our greater membership.   • The SFBS September dinner meeting will be a joint meeting hosted by the Redwood Empire Section and will be held on Septebmer 4, 2014 at Salito's Crab House & Prime Rib in Sausalito. Brooke Halsey, Tiburon Salmon Institute (TSI) Executive Director, will be presenting on working with educators, scientists, and conservationists in raising, protecting, and enhancing salmon and their habitat here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
