Greetings
from the President

by Leo Gonzalez
It
is a tradition of the San Francisco Bay Section that the first
meeting of the New Year be held at the newly elected President’s
home. We like to call it
the “Kick-Off Meeting”. The
kick-off meeting was held on Friday, February 15th at my home is
Pleasant
Hill
.
It is a time for all board members and committee chairs to
kick off their shoes, have a few hors d’oeuveres, a few cocktails
(just to get the brain cells working) and relax.
This is an opportunity for all those involved in leading the
Bay Section to get to know one another and to exchange plans for the
year. I know that many
times getting together is hard to do with our busy work and family
schedules, but I feel it is very important to make time to do this
as part of a team building process.
No one person can do it alone, it takes a team of hard
working individuals donating their time and efforts to make
everything a success.
The
meeting began with the President going over the Board of Directors
duties, adding or changing duties as they apply, as well as making
sure that the committee chairs have liaisons to their committees.
We also discussed ways to rejuvenate some of the committees
that have fallen to the wayside.
In addition, there was discussion of the changes being made
by the CWEA Board. It is
critical that we completely understand the issues (at hand) of CWEA
so that we can relay this information to all our members.
There are many issues that have come about within the last
two years. Many of these
issues will be mentioned in upcoming “Ink Spot” articles. Some
of these issues will affect all of the Local Sections in the CWEA
organization. One way to
voice your opinion is to attend the monthly dinners and ask
questions. Your
questions and concerns are relayed to the Board of Directors who
will in turn discuss them with the Northern Regional Committee and
to the CWEA Board.
We
were treated to some excellent Mexican Food for dinner.
Everyone engaged in conversations that did not include work;
getting to know each other on a personal level.
After dinner, we went through introductions so that the new
Committee Members would know who we are.
I would like to personally welcome three new members, Paul
Louis of Central Contra Costa Sanitary District who was installed as
our 2nd year Director.
Paul has been active on the Collections Systems committee at
both local and state levels (past chair of both).
Paul has great enthusiasm and energy and is always full of
good ideas. Kevin
O’Toole of Whitley Burchett and Associates will be taking over as
chair of the PDC committee in July.
Cassie Prudhel of the City of
South San
Francisco
will be
chair of the Laboratory Committee that consists of SFBS and Santa
Clara Valley Sections.
I would like to thank everyone for coming
out to attend the “Kick-Off meeting” on a FRIDAY night.
This shows dedication to the SFBS and overall commitment to
the organization. I am
honored to be serving the SFBS along with the elite group of Board
Members and Committee Chairs.
Like
I told everyone at the Awards Banquet, “Let’s have some Fun and
a GREAT YEAR!”
