Letter from the Vice President

By Ray Busch

If the February Board meeting of the San Francisco Bay Section portends the near future of the section and the CWEA, then we are in for a great time. The Professional Development Committee Chair Person Kevin O’Toole rolled out the four big training seminars that they have scheduled over the next few months. Look for the announcements that will lead you to dynamite seminars on the following subjects; SCADA, Air Regulation Issues, Asset Management, and Corrosion Control.

The Section‘s Safety Committee Chair person Leo Gonzalez graciously accepted the appreciation and gratitude for the work of that committee putting together the fall Woodland Safety Training Day. The top quality safety training that all the participants received is the biggest part of the story, the success and generosity of this committee is not quite so widely known. How successful? How generous? Well rumor has it that it took 10 – 15 minutes for all of the participants at the San Diego CWEA Board meeting to regain their composure after Leo announced that a Ten Thousand dollar contribution would be made to the CWEA from the proceeds generated from this exemplary training event.

CWEA Director Kathy Sutter unveiled the CWEA Nominating Committee’s slate of recommended officers for 2003-2004. Noteworthy are the two Bay Section members. Tracy Stigers is slated to be the Director from the North and Kathy Sutter is on the ticket to be the CWEA Vice President. Kathy will likely be the first woman to be at the top of the organization chart in CWEA’s 78 year history.

Finally for those who may be wondering why this months letter from the President is not written by the section’s new President … well, President Sandeep Karkal was diverted from the present as he builds the future. Sandeep and his wife are the happy new parents of a brand new baby daughter, Sara. Congratulations to Sandeep and family.
