Inland Empire Regional Compost Authority
The Inland Empire Regional Composting Facility is the largest fully enclosed composting facility in the United States processing over 200,000 tons/year of biosolids and greenwaste. The facility was created as a partnership between Inland Empire Utilities Agency and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts to manage biosolids locally. It is operated by IEUA but the safety program is a partnership between the two agencies. The facility is highly industrial and has 11,000 truck trips, thousands of hours of heavy equipment time each year and has over 2 years with no recordable or loss time accidents. This is accomplished by a strong culture of safety, rewards and education.
Purpose
The Plant Safety award is awarded in three categories: small, medium and large. Criteria include number of injuries, lost-time accidents, record keeping, in-house training, emergency response and program implementation.
