The Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) is a public resource recovery facility that provides effective wastewater collection, treatment, disposal, and recycling services for 2.6 million people in central and northwest Orange County. OC San’s service area consist of 20 cities, 4 special districts, and the unincorporated areas of the County of Orange. OC San partnered with the Heritage Museum of Orange County to expand and increase awareness and knowledge of the wastewater treatment process and illustrate how OC San protects public health and the environment. This partnership provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how everyone can be an environmental steward through an engaging and interactive program.

Purpose

The Community Engagement & Outreach Program of the Year recognizes significant achievements in promoting awareness and understanding of water quality issues. There are three categories: Small (Less than 5 MGD), Medium (Greater than or equal to 5 MGD and less than or equal to 20 MGD), Large (Greater than 20 MGD).
